hello.
sorry for not writing for a while, but i was in miami....which i will now write about.
let's get the important stuff out of the way first, though.
illini are awesome.
i've been watching illini basketball since i was a kid, and there is always a common theme for me when watching them, which is extreme frustration. it mostly comes from being so much into them. also, it's pretty natural for college teams to be frustrating to watch, since they're...college kids. (i remember one time i cried after they lost just a regular season big ten game against ohio state in 1990 or something...then my dad didn't let me watch the next game as punishment. yes, sad.) anyways, the thing about this team is that i haven't seen many dumb shots, turnovers, other mistakes, which i'm not sure how to handle....except to cream in my pants.
ok, as most of you probably know, i went to miami for some training. no one probably wants to hear about the training part, so i'll just say it was good.
first, some bitching. on the brochure for this class, it said that i would be staying in south beach, in the art deco district. well, actually i stayed on sunny isles beach, which is like a half hour away. bastards. so every time i wanted to go to south beach, i had to take a nasty bus back and forth. also, i had to pay 50 bucks for a taxi from the airport to the hotel (and back). but wipe those tears away, because i still had a good time.
stuff from the trip:
- lots of rich people. i've seen more bmw's, benz's, lexuses, lamborghinis in the last few days than i have before this trip combined. and rims. i was just walkin around on some street in south beach and i saw two gray lamborghinis parked next to each other.
- it's nice there. 80's, no humidity, no bugs. winter is a good time to go.
- 80-90% of the people i saw were cuban.
- there's the same percentage of hot chicks in miami, as say, the sconz, but the not-so-hot chicks have good bodies and dress slutty, so it could seem like there are more hot chicks in miami than other places.
- saw a bunch of topless chicks on south beach. it may sound awesome, but once you keep seeing bare titties, after a while, you're just like, "eh". it's not like a strip club, cause the chicks dance and stuff. on the beach, they just lay there. plus, there weren't as many topless as i thought there'd be, maybe 10% of them were.
- oh yeah, i stood a foot away from anna kournikova in banana republic of all places. at first, i looked her over and did the normal male "she's hot" routine, but then i thought "man, that really looks like kournikova." and it was. either nobody cared she was there, or nobody noticed. funny part was when she walked out, some chicks across the street go "HI ANNA! SEE YOU AT THE TENNIS CLUB," which drew some attention to her. she then scurried into the next store. hot for a normal person, but not as much as she's built up to be.
- i went out saturday night to crobar (not my idea). seemed the same as goin out in chicago. except a lot bigger.
- tons of people walking around in south beach at like 4am saturday night.
- every time you walk into a store (cuban-run) the people that work there stalk you until you leave or buy something.
overall, i had a good time there. i wish i could've went with friends, then it would've been a lot better...which leads to the conclusion: i should go to south beach again with friends (in winter).
that kournikova story adds to my list of famous people encouters:
1. me and chico were sitting in the kitchen at wat just watching all the other guys following mayor daley when he came to visit in like 1991 i think, and he goes: "how you doing boys?" and shook our hands. i thought that was pretty cool.
2. me, vic, and chinners eating with billy corgan at ihop (with 30 other people) in champaign.
3. meeting the rest of the band at record service later that day.
4. kournikova (mentioned above)
5. seeing fess hawkins at that's rentertainment.
ok, maybe that last one shouldn't count. but i guess that's a pretty lame list.
laters.
